The Metropolitan College Enriched ESL Program has been created by professional ESL Instructional designers incorporating the best approaches to foreign language acquisition.  Learning materials have been developed by leading ESL publishing houses using authentic materials on contemporary themes.

Program Focus

The Enriched ESL Program focuses equally on all of the following areas:

General Language Usage incorporates all aspects of the English Language, including grammar, vocabulary, listening, speaking, pronunciation and writing.  Using the communicative method students prepare to use English in the real world.

Practical Listening, Understanding and Responding helps students communicate in English in a variety of situations. Students focus on real life communication and develop the skills needed to understand and be understood.

Vital Grammar and Vocabulary helps students overcome the complexities of English grammar while building their vocabulary extensively. 

Focused Reading, Writing and Conversation introduces literature into the ESL class.  Students read a variety of genres that have been adapted to their reading level .  Students share their written and spoken  responses to the reading materials, giving them an opportunity to enhance both written and spoken communication.

Enriched ESL Program Levels

All students write a placement test at the beginning of the program and are then placed in classes based on test results.  Based on their level of English students will begin in one of the following Enriched ESL Program Levels.

Beginner (Level 1-2)

Intermediate (Level 3-4)

Advanced (level 5-6)

Proficiency (level 6+)

Students will receive a Certificate of English Language Studies on their last day of class

Study Formats

Metropolitan College offers students a selection of programs and study formats to fit their specific needs, goals and time restrictions.

Students may choose a format of study that best suits their needs including: 
Super Intensive, Intensive, Full-Time, Part-time, or Private Lessons.

Full-Time
The Full-Time format is designed for students interested in semi-intensive studies.  This format consists of 20 hours of lessons per week
(4 hours a day) in a class of  4-8 students.

Intensive
The Intensive format is designed for students who want a more rigorous mode of study. This format consists of 20 hours of lessons per week (4 hours each day) in a class of 4-8 students. The intensive format also includes 2 additional  hours per week of private lessons.

Super Intensive
The Super Intensive format is designed for students who want a more rigorous mode of study. This format consists of 20 hours of lessons per week (4 hours each day) in a class of 4-8 students. The Super intensive format also includes 4 additional  hours per week of private lessons.

Private Lessons
The Private Lessons format in designed for students who are interested in a customized learning program. It can be taken for any program offered at Metropolitan College.  At the students request a schedule will be made to suit their needs.  This format is available to students who are interested in as little as 1 hour of private instruction  per week to those interested in total immersion of up to 6 hours of private instruction per day.
