About Toronto
The City's excellent Colleges, Universities, Libraries and Educational opportunities make it the ideal place to study. Set on the North shore of Lake Ontario, Toronto was created in 1834 and named after the Mohawk word for "meeting place". Today it is the "meeting place" of over 80 ethnic groups from all over the world. Toronto is the largest city in Canada, with a population of over 4 million. It is an international city and has been designated by the United Nations as the "most multi-cultural" and "the best city in the world to live" many times. Toronto has a beautiful beach district and is full of city parks and bicycle paths. The public transportation system also adds to the city's charm. The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) operates a world-class public transit system. The clean, safe, and easy system includes subway, bus and streetcar routes, allowing you to travel within the city with great ease and comfort. If its entertainment that your are looking for, Toronto is the home of world class restaurants, shopping districts, theatres, musical performances, concerts, sporting events as well as an exciting and vibrant night life. If you are interested in staying active, Toronto has both public and private sports centers for recreational sports such as Hockey, Basketball, Baseball, Skating, Soccer, Tennis and many more. Metropolitan College organizes activities and excursions including movie nights and visits to tourist attractions. The college also plans dinners to a variety of ethnic restaurants. We have found that exploring an array of cuisines is the ideal way to experience Toronto’s culturally diverse neighborhoods.
“To learn a language you must live a language” Depending on your interests we encourage and help you find and join a group to participate in activities with other Canadians. We encourage students not to all join the same group. It is important to do activities independently in order to meet Canadians and really experience day to day life in Toronto. *Activities Include:
Yoga
*The cost of these activities is not included in the tuition cost. The College makes every effort to negotiate special discounts for students. Student’s pay the organizations offering activities directly. Certain activities are free of charge.

You should book your course well in advance if you are coming from a country where a study permit is needed to enter Canada. A study permit is not required for many countries as long as you are staying in Canada for less than 6 months. Everyone who plans on studying for more than 6 months needs a study permit. Students can extend their study permit from within Canada, but they cannot get a study permit within Canada. Students who would like to work in Canada while they study require a work permit. Therefore, they must obtain a study permit before coming to Canada in order to be allowed to apply for a work permit within Canada. Some Canadian embassies provide a work permit along with a study permit. Please contact the Canadian embassy nearest you for further information.
